PROJECT: MULTIPURPOSE ROOM : Project in progress
The multipurpose room is under construction and will soon be a fun space that can be used for homework, tutoring, meetings, therapy and a number of other needs. People contact us if you are interested in helping purchase or donate furnishing for the room please contact us at divinefamilyorphanage@gmail.com.
PROJECT: FINISHING EXTERIOR OF THE HOME –
The exterior needs to be finished and painted. Exposed cement block and cement deteriorates quickly. The exterior wall to the boys room has already begun deteriorating, causing a security issue. It would be easy for someone to further add to the hole that is beginning to form, and enter the house. Not to mention, it would be pricey to fix the wall. We hope to stop the deterioration before it becomes an (expensive) problem, by finishing the exterior.
PROJECT: UNDER THE BED STORAGE –
Closets and storage spaces are needed for the kids’ clothes and personal belongings. The kids’ clothes are currently kept in laundry hampers. We have been able to create some under the bed storage and an open closet system, however not enough to contain all of the kids’ clothing. Each drawer set costs about $150 for a local Haitian carpenter to build. We still need about 7 sets and we need at least 2 open closets for the boys’ bedrooms.
PROJECT: SECOND FLOOR AWNING —
The second floor has a large sitting area the kids enjoy to gather and play in. However under the blazing Haitian sun, it is rendered unusable during the day. This space could be easily utilized during the day if there was a form of shade. The awning is also critical because there are open- air stairs to the first floor that, when it rains, allow water to pool and enter the handicapped kids’ room, which is not ideal for their health.
